Château Latour , 1975

It fell into British hands in 1963, and then, thanks to François Pinaud, became French again in 1993. Remarkably sited in relation the the Gironde river, on a geologically rare, if not unique outcrop. The property also includes vineyards on the plateau de Batailley, which, with the wines rejected from the first selection, serve to make up the Forts de Latour, the second wine. In certain years, there is also a third wine, the Pauillac de Latour.

It is produced at a family property that works hard to keep it's own personal style. The dominance of Chardonnay results in an elegant Champagne full of finesse. It is well-balanced, full bodied and displays plenty of class. This Champagne could easily be classed alongside the best Grand Crus, but without the huge price tag.

Château Picard , 1998
Of Dutch and Bordeaux origin, the Mähler-Besse family (and the estate and international business that bear their name) have been associated with the biggest names in the Bordeaux wine industry since 1892.
Classed as a Cru Bourgeois in 1932, Château Picard – situated at the heart of the village of Saint-Estèphe – has always been considered as one of the finest wines of the appellation. The last of the properties acquired by Mähler-Besse (1997), this domaine of 8 hectares was chosen for its development potential and for its small surface area allowing complete mastery of its production. Since their acquisition of the Château Picard, Mähler-Besse has renovated its wineries in the style of Napoleon III, fitting it out with new winemaking tools able to carry out the start of the harvest by gravitation. This technique allows the respect of every grape, with an eye to consistently monitor the wine's quality. Its exceptional clay terroir, characteristic of Saint-Estèphe, presents soil brimming with fossils of shellfish and sea urchins. This vineyard comprises of a large percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon grape, which give finely smoked and spicy wines of great class.

The house was founded by Madame Pommery, which in itself was relatively revolutionary in the male dominated Champagne world of the time. Today the house of Pommery is a reference for all those who love great Champagne.
